If you have an old refrigerator or freezer in your home, recycling it can help you reduce your energy costs. PSE&G makes it easy. We’ll pick up and haul away up to two refrigerators or freezers per household. And, if you have any old, working room air conditioners or dehumidifiers, we’ll recycle up to two room air conditioners or dehumidifiers per household during the same appointment.

Check Your Eligibility
To participate, you must be a current PSE&G customer receiving residential electric service (or a Butler Electric customer receiving PSE&G residential gas service). Your refrigerator or freezer must be 10 to 30 cubic feet and in working order. Please note that Sub-Zero brand appliances are not eligible for this program. You must be the owner of the appliances you want to recycle, and the appliances need to be located at your PSE&G billing address.

On Pick-up Day
- Customers will have the option of an indoor pickup, or a no-contact outdoor pickup.
- For indoor pickups, the removal team will ask for your electronic signature before they collect the appliance(s) from your home.
- There must be a clear and safe passage for appliance removal. We cannot remove railings or move furniture. Our collection team reserves the right to refuse removal if they determine doing so presents a risk of damage to your home.
- Our removal team cannot traverse more than one set of stairs during the removal of your appliance(s). If your appliance is located more than one floor from your building’s point of egress, elevator access is required.
- For outdoor pickups, a signed authorization form must be placed with one of the units being collected. We cannot collect any appliance that isn’t listed on the completed authorization form. You will receive the form via email after you schedule your appointment. If the form is not present at the time of pickup, the collection team will not be able to collect the unit, and your appointment will need to be rescheduled.
- Please make sure your pets are secured.
- An adult age 18 or older must be present at the time of pickup.
- Your appliance(s) must be plugged in, so the removal team can confirm it is in working condition.
- Note that our trucks are not permitted to enter driveways.
- The refrigerator’s or freezer’s waterline should be disconnected, the drip pan drained, and the unit properly defrosted. All appliances must be clean, empty, and closed securely so that it is not able to be opened by children. We are unable to accept any appliances with mold or mildew damage.
Bulk Appliance Recycling for Commercial Accounts
If you are a retailer or multi-family property owner with a PSE&G electric account and have refrigerators and/or freezers to recycle, PSE&G can help. We offer:
- A $50 rebate for each refrigerator or freezer*
- Free pickup and haul-away
- Environmentally responsible recycling and disposal
To participate, you must be a current retailer or multi-family property owner receiving PSE&G electric service. Your refrigerator(s) and/or freezer(s) must be 10 to 30 cubic feet and in working order. PSE&G cannot accept appliances that you are not planning to reuse or resell (such as units meant to be discarded or scrapped). Please note that Sub-Zero brand appliances are not eligible for this program. Also, you must be the owner of the appliance you want to recycle, and the appliance needs to be located at your PSE&G billing address.
