If you have an old refrigerator or freezer in your home, recycling it can help you reduce your energy costs. PSE&G makes it easy. We’ll pick up and haul away up to two refrigerators or freezers per household. And, if you have any old, working room air conditioners or dehumidifiers, we’ll recycle up to two room air conditioners and up to two dehumidifiers per household during the same appointment.

Benefits of Recycling

  • A $50 rebate for each refrigerator or freezer—plus an additional $25 rebate for each room air conditioner or dehumidifier when picked up at the same time*
  • Free pickup and haul-away
  • Environmentally responsible recycling and disposal
  • Up to $150 in annual energy savings

On Pickup Day

  1. Customers will have the option of indoor or outdoor, no contact appliance recycling pick-ups. See the section below for more details.
  2. An adult aged 18 or older must be present at the time of pickup.
  3. Note that our trucks are not permitted to enter driveways.
  4. The refrigerator or freezer’s waterline should be disconnected, the drip pan drained, and the unit properly defrosted. All appliances must be clean, empty, closed securely, and not able to be opened by children.
  5. For outdoor pick-ups, plug in the appliance in one of the qualifying outside locations (garage, porch, or outbuilding).
  6. Ensure a clear and safe passage for appliance removal. Crews cannot remove furniture, railings, etc. Please also make sure pets are secured.
  7. Clearly mark the unit(s) for pickup with a marker or sticky note to indicate the unit is for recycling pickup.
  8. Print out the customer authorization form and place it inside your unit prior to pickup. You will receive the form via email when you schedule your appointment. If the form is not present, the collection team will not be able to collect the unit and your appointment will need to be rescheduled.

What Is a No-Contact Pickup?

The safety of our customers and contractors during the COVID-19 pandemic is our highest priority. No-contact pickups allow us to collect and recycle your old appliance(s) while maintaining social distancing.

When our team arrives at your home, they will be wearing masks and other personal protective equipment. They will remove your old, plugged-in appliance(s) from a designated location.
